Langer’s Luxurious Links

Next up was Schladming-Dachstein Golf Club, another of Austria’s ‘Leading Golf Courses’.

Schladming-Dachstein Golf Club, the "Pebble Beach" of the Alps?

Designed by Bernhard Langer, they call it the "Pebble Beach" of the Alps. I don’t think there’s any need to make such comparisons. Schladming is in a league of its own!

Langer designed his Austrian masterpiece at the height of his playing career and he employed the same ‘fastidiousness’ to the course’s architecture as he applied to his game.

Schladming-Dachstein does have some American elements, i.e. lots of water as demonstrated at the 6th, the course’s Signature hole.

I reckon a well-designed course brings out the best in our game and that seemed to be the case here. The six par 3s are the most memorable holes, although I also enjoyed the smooth, nicely shaped contours of the longer holes.

Schladming-Dachstein does have many American elements, such as lots of water. Water hazards come into play at more than half of the holes.

This is a highly playable golf course, and once again of exceptional quality.

Mondsee is easily accessed from the highway from Salzburg.

MONDSEE GOLF CLUB

On our drive to Salzburg, we stopped at Mondsee Golf Club for refreshments and a quick look at their golf course. It looked impressive and was no doubt well worth a round but we had a pending dinner date in the city of Salzburg, less than an hour away, so on we travelled.
