Tomar's off the beaten track but I highly recommend you make a visit especially if you’re driving north from Lisbon to Porto.

The Knights Templar were a tough bunch. They didn't take any nonsense. The cloister seemed to be divided between the Knights and monks.

The nicest thing about Tomar might be its street lamps. There are lots of them. And the shiny pavements.
